Bangkok. Tips to Choose the Right Luxury Hotel
There are so many fabulous places to stay in Bangkok, so where do you start?
Choosing the right Bangkok luxury hotel or resort can take you hours of internet research, and in this city that rarely sleeps, it is important to know what to look for.
Look at four main categories to help you make your selection.
1. Service 2. Budget. 3. Property Features 4. Location
… … … … … … … … … … … …
1. Service
‘Service with a smile’.
Sometimes it is worth splurging or treating yourself to the finer things of life.
This means you want to receive ‘service with a smile’ and ‘impeccable personalized service’ from every member of staff that assists you.
I loved watching our housekeeping lady sit each day and peel back the lotus flower petals as she arranged the blooms to float in water in our suite. These are the little details that show the staff love their work and care about their guests.
A good concierge can assist with many issues: from passports, consulates, flight queries, and other travel needs.
Guest Relations know their city, so they will be the best people to suggest where to shop, what to see, tours to use, and safety issues around the city.
Often a ‘hidden gem’ can be found from local knowledge, and it saves you hours of scouring the internet. We found this with the great Tuk-Tuk night food tour we went on with Bangkok Food Tours, and a Banyan Tree staff member rang them for us.
Restaurant bookings are another great feature of a good property like Banyan Tree Bangkok, and you can experience unique restaurants.
We’ll tell you more about some of these later in the article, but we were so glad of a steaming cold signature cocktail served on dry ice at their rooftop bar! What a top suggestion from their staff.

2. Budget
If the hotel or resort can offer you a vacation of a lifetime, or sweet memories that will be with you forever, then delving that little further into your budget can be worth it.
After all the wise old saying is “You pay for what you get”.
When selecting a good quality hotel, it is the ‘little extras’ you pay for that are important and can assist in sealing the final decision.
The ‘little extras’ you might want to receive with a two-bedroom suite can be anything from robes and slippers; to complimentary laundry items daily (2 pieces per person per day); morning newspaper hung on the door, and even a coffee machine in the main suite living room.
The list goes on and on but these are worth every Thai Baht worth of inclusion.
Staff assisting us helped to make our days and night here amazing too.
The Executive Lounge Manager was wonderful, and we are forever grateful for his fabulous next recommendation.
Banyan Tree Apsara is a luxury dinner cruise in a traditional fully restored vintage wooden boat cruise that glides down the Chao Phraya River as you wine and dines in style, and we are so glad he helped us with this choice.
This is one of the highlights of our time in Bangkok.
The food on the Apsara dinner cruise is delicious (dietary needs are catered for), and information was provided to us throughout the evening to educate us on all the wonderful places we passed as we relaxed at our table.
I loved the way we could ask the Executive Club staff what to wear and we felt confident with the reply.
As a mother, I appreciated the cruise permitted well-behaved children. The layout of tables on deck was in such a way that we felt private from other tables, and with personalized service, this all added to a brilliant evening.
All in all – it was a perfect night from start to finish.

3. Features
Where you sleep is going to be the most important part of selecting the right hotel property. The features of that property are important.
If you are a traveling family, would a one or two bedroom suite meet your needs?
Do you need a separate living area?
What features of the room or suite do you require?
Would you like a city view or a river view?
All of these questions need to be asked prior to making your selection, to ensure you are a happy guest.
This Banyan Tree Bangkok property has it all!
After you have chosen where to sleep, think about what you would like to do.
Moon Bar has a ‘killer’ view, and I’d suggest it is not to be missed. Located on the roof, this is a world famous bar, and I’d recommend heading here at 5:00 pm if you want a perfect seat with a choice of view. It is adjacent to the Vertigo Restaurant also located on the rooftop.
What a hotel or resort can offer you and your family is of prime importance.
If you looking for an Executive Club Lounge, a Stunning View, a fabulous Swimming Pool, a Rooftop Bar, a Floating Restaurant, a One-bedroom, Two-bedroom, Spa or even Presidential Suite, or a myriad of other features, then you should consider some or all of these options when you are selecting your hotel.
The Executive Club Lounge is included with some rooms.
As soon as your taxi arrives, the friendly Banyan Tree staff will whisk you upstairs to Level 19 where check-in occurs.
Throughout the day ‘finger food’ and beverages are available adjacent to the check-in area at the Executive Club Lounge.
Not only that, but breakfast is also served here – a perfect place to start your day away from the busy restaurant crowds.
And as the sun starts to set over the Bangkok skyline, head on up to Executive Club Lounge once more. Hot and cold finger food is served, along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

We found it was a great place to meet other travelers from all over the world.
As we relaxed with a drink, travel seemed to be the prime conversation as stories were swapped of who was arriving, or of tales of Bangkok adventures and exploration.

4. Location
Yes – you’ve heard it before. Location, location, location!
Where your hotel or resort is located can be very important, especially in Bangkok.
Ask yourself what prime location you desire.
Do you wish to be in the heart of the city; in the midst of the nightlife; close to shopping; near tourist attractions; sunrises from your window, or tucked away from the busy road.
When we decided to visit the beautiful island of Bintan recently Banyan Tree Bintan was tucked away and perfect for the secluded rest we needed in Indonesia. This aided us in deciding that we’d like to try Banyan Tree once more.
After our stay in Banyan Tree Bangkok, we’d love to stay at another of their properties. I wonder where it will be?

Sounds like the perfect place to stay
It is a totally stunning place to stay. Perfect in every way!
Looks like the Banyan Tree might just be about the perfect place to stay in Bangkok. Like how you covered all of the things to look for. For us, coffee maker in the room is huge.
I agree – I love a coffeemaker in the room. To start my day in privacy with a good cup of coffee is really important. Banyan Tree Bangkok have the best coffeemakers too.
I’m with you all the way. I totally love luxury resorts like the Banyan Tree Bangkok. Would love to be a guest there!
I hope you get to Thailand. We ADORE this resort style hotel and can’t sing their praises highly enough – you would be thrilled.
I was in Bangkok last month and someone suggested going to the Banyan Tree for a drink on the rooftop. Sadly I never made it there and now I wish I had gone! While I was happy with my hotel and its location, as you say, splurging every now and then is worth it!
What a shame you missed the Moon Bar. It is quite famous but with Bangkok, there is always so much to do. Hopefully next time!
Great tips on choosing the right room or suite in Bangkok or wherever you are. A room can really make or break a travel experience.
Yes We find we wish we had researched more sometimes with where we choose to stay. We think this hotel is so wonderful we will return again on our next stay.
Looks like a great place to stay for so many reasons!
You are right Irene! It is – just like that – many reasons!
The Banyan Tree looks like a perfectly luxurious place to stay in Bangkok. I love a hotel with a club level it always makes the stay so much more pleasant and relaxing. We’ll definitely keep it in mind when we visit Bangkok. Thanks!
It is so good Sue that we just went back for a second stay!
