Day 2 in London – so much to see
We are trying to see London in 2 or 3 days. We had a bad day yesterday, but we loved it. So on the way in on the train today we see the stop for Tower Bridge and jump off. We are glad we did. Here there is a lot to see and a good place to start.
There is a mix of old and new. We haven’t planned this, so we kind of lose our bearings and itinerary.
We walk over the Tower Bridge and discover this is not the London Bridge.
When you get to the Tower of London side, you can see the Shard clearly. We met information who told us to go there, so we will track back later.
The Tower of London houses the crown jewels, so here we decided to have some educational time. Our friend took off, and Exploramum and Explorason went on in. Tip. If you travel by train, you can show your ticket and get 2 tickets for the price of one.
Here you can also get your photo with the Beefeaters who walk around. Mind you both were not too polite or friendly. Once inside it took us about 10 minutes to locate the Crown Jewels area.
We had lined up for tickets, lined up to get in, but to line up for this was crazy! Over one and a half hours.
Once in you zigzag slowly, following like sheep until you get to the Crown Jewels area. Then of all things, there are two travelators and you HAVE to stand on them to see the jewels. So you are whisked past. We went back inside and did another look. Crazy and disappointing, but I do understand why.
We raced outside and found our friend. We walked over London Bridge. A big disappointment. The old bridge is sold and the 1970’s bridge is plain and boring. So we head to The Shard. If you go to Floor 32, you can buy a reasonably priced drink and get the view of your life.
After that we had wrong directions from Underground staff, so 4 Tubes later, we found ourselves at Piccadilly Circus. We then went down Regent Street.
After this, we headed to The Ritz.
From there we walked to Trafalgar Square, and there was a free concert. There was also a row of famous cars. Perfect for Explorason.
Mt Bean, Herbie, Batman, and several others, and we were able to even sit in one and have some photos with others. One excited boy!
By now we were tired. We found an awesome English Pub and had Roast Dinner at a great price. It was at the top of Whitehall.
From there we walked down Whitehall to Westminster, and over the Thames River to the London Eye.
I’ll blog separately on this as we also did a river cruise and a 4D show – it was awesome!
So sunset along the River Thames was the perfect end to our day.
We headed back to Westminster station and said farewell to London. What an amazing city. London is incredible!
