Nice is Nice – France that is!
Airbnb – You can really get some great properties on there, and so did we.
So after we have had a rough flight back from Morocco, with Explorason having gastro, we have spent the night in a chain motel in Marseille, before heading to Nice for our Airbnb apartment.
Having been in Morocco we were not privy to phone calls, and so were surprised when we received a message that our host expected us in the morning and not the evening of that day.
We had planned to go via St. Tropes and Cannes, so with deep regret, we missed these two locations as he was indicating he was departing and had made plans around us.
So we quickly packed and ate breakfast in our room that we had with us. Basic cereal and coffee is something we always carry, as well as long-life milk, and this day it was a handy thing. Explorason just had bread with his tummy still not right.
So as the morning progresses, we need to drive on the toll road and miss all the quaint countryside and towns (a thing I love), and so this day we also paid toll roads to get there fast, and to miss what we wanted to see, and to change our travel plans.
So it was also a surprise when we arrived and our host was no-where in sight and we had to wait nearly half an hour for him.
But once in the apartment, the view over Nice Harbour took my breath away. It was just stunning. Set high on the hills surrounding Nice we were perched with a perfect view.
Explorason and I are ready for some days in and time to have the “home feel”, and this apartment is just the place.
But we head to the beach and Explorason thinks he finds a rock the shape of Australia.
What do you think?
Be prepared for a rocky foot massage if you try to swim. It is about two or three feet climb out at a steep incline.
Thus the many tanners, and the few swimmers.
The promenade stroll late one afternoon is gorgeous too.
That evening I sit and just adore the view. It is so relaxing and I have some decisions to be made in light of some news, so this is the perfect place to think about life and its direction.
Next afternoon it is time for a port stroll. Here lovely boats from rich to not so rich are mingling in the water.
We decided to wander around the bluff, and it is a lovely balmy afternoon.
I am not sure who would want to purchase a luminous orange painted Maserati?
As the sun sets, Explorason and I enjoy a dance to a guitarist, singer and accordion player. I love relaxed times and not the fast pace we have just done in Morocco. I want to slow down, and so does Explorason. Explorafriend takes some fav sunset pics and we have a laugh.
In the evening you can drive down the Promenade and the palm trees are entwined with little fairy lights.
Mind you it is not until quite late, so don’t expect it just as the sun sets, as they are not on then.
Another day Explorason wants to go to the Museum of Modern Art. So we drive in and score a free park very close by.
Fortunately, it is free to enter, and they provide you with a locker for water bottles etc too.
This dress is made from blue plastic a water bottles cut in half.
We have been to better art galleries. We love art and modern art, and I should have taken photos of the rags tied with string, and painted bits of wood. By the end, we couldn’t wait to leave, and that is not like us. We are art lovers.
So we went for Ice-cream instead, and it was delicious. The old town hosts many places to try the local creamy ice-cream in its waffle cones – yum!
The center of the old town has a tower, so it is easy to find, and many streets to wander through for shopping. To be honest. We are pretty “shopped out”.
There is a great fountain in the old town area too. We, however, couldn’t find a park, so just drove by.
So with six days in Nice, we ended the time with a great night out at the Restaurant strip on a Saturday night. Parking was premium. Space was very limited, but we found one and went and had one of the most overpriced pizzas in my life.
If you go to Nice, be aware there is tiny print on the set menu that adds three or four Euro to each item. Something that tricked Explorafriend, and she was shocked when she received her bill.
So another week has passed by with our travels.
I will blog separately on a few of our day trips.
It is going to be time to make some travel changes soon, so stay tuned for where life is heading for us two in the future.

Nice is wonderful! Was just there in June. I loved the port and the lit-up trees along the Promenade!
Yes it is a pretty place. I don’t think you would tire of the promenade evening stroll with those pretty lights. Thanks for following our journey.
Nice post! Since you like art be sure to go to the Matisse and Chagall museum. Get the audio tour at Chagall. Russian Orthodox Church is also good to see.
Another enjoyable article! I love following your adventures and admire your explorer spirits. Tell Explorason I too collect rocks from different countries: India, Cotswolds in England and Kenya — to name a few — are proudly displayed in my home.
Thanks Marilyn – a few rocks have been sent back from around the world. I think I love them as much as he does. I’m glad you enjoy collecting them too. It is a great and free thing to enjoy.
Good post. Nice is one of those places where you can go on and on and still discover new, gorgeous places.
Nice is one of my favorite cities in France! Unfortunately, we got very unlucky with our accommodation there, which kind of spoiled the mood for us! We should definitely go back soon!
Shame about your accommodation – that could make or break a memory. You’ll have to go back and make new memories.
