When you travel where do you mainly eat?
Do you venture out of your hotel and explore the surrounding area, or do you choose to dine in their restaurant?
Most times when we travel and book a hotel, we tend to eat out of the hotel, mainly because you think it is ‘mainstream’ and ‘predictable’.
But recently we stayed at the Watermark Hotel and Spa when we were in Bali.
We discovered they had a fabulous executive chef who cooked amazing meals, even some dishes using Australian Beef, so we ensured we reserved a table for dinner on our very first night.
I have had three days of enjoying Indonesian Dinners, and my taste buds were ready to sense something new.
The restaurant is open and breezy, maximizing the stunning outlook of the ground floor garden and pool area, complete with walled water cascading to the rear.
On arrival…
I ordered a Balinese White Wine (Yes Bali even has vineyards that produce their own wine) from their lovely Egyptian Assistant Food and Beverage Manager. We learn he has recently moved to Bali after marrying his Indonesian bride. He is delightful, and we reminisce about Egypt.
We order a set three-course menu, but we each select something different.
The Appetiser platter comes first and is amazing.
Here is a sample of the Menu
APPETIZER INDONESIA ITALIAN

Explorason actually really liked his selection, which quite surprised me.
Next came a lovely salad.
The choices include Caesar Salad: Seafood Salad: or Gado Gado Salad.
The dressing was just another delight to the senses.
I was almost feeling full but was pleased we had a little break between courses because the main course was next.
I had a platter with the Australian Beef that had been aged and marinated to perfection. I’m not a big meat eater, but this meat was just so tender. It was accompanied by chicken and hand cut potato wedges, served with a baked onion.
Towards the end of the evening, it was an honor to meet the Executive Chef: Mr. Yoshifumi Machino who came out and introduced himself to us. Such a nice man to chat to, and amazingly dedicated and talented.

Angelique Café
Next to W Senses is also Angelique Café. A not to be missed experience if you are staying here.
With their own exclusive range of products for sale, it also makes the perfect gift to take home from Bali.
We popped into Angelique Café for Afternoon Tea and enjoyed coffee and cake for me. The cream jug was the tiniest I’ve ever seen – so petite! The cakes were rich and delicious. There was also a vast selection of teas served.
I loved the way they provided a basket for my bag so it didn’t sit on the ground. The little things do get remembered!
It overlooks the pool area and is located right opposite the foyer. A great place to meet a friend, a quick drink or a pick me up coffee after a full day ‘playing tourist’.

You are so lucky trying different foods all the time
I agree – and to try Australian prime meat in Bali – was an unexpected delight
