Bearizona and Meteor Crater
and Winslow Arizona
Bearizona and Meteor Crater are two places you should not miss if you plan a road trip in this area. This is our last day in the Flagstaff Region. We have been here for nearly a week and have loved our time here and could have spent a month! Today we head to Bearizona first as I have a $5 off voucher we found online and the receptionist prints it out for me (little tips to save your family money). Our hope is that the rest of the day will be fine and the family travel will go as planned. As luxury travel experts, we advise you visit this area as it is just incredible and so educational too. This is the advise we can give as we pack our bags and leave Flagstaff with much regret as we wanted to stay longer and can’t.
It is a drive-through park, so they give you a great talking GPS that is activated as you drive. They have a fabulous selection of North American animals but Bearazona is really is a great hidden secret. Please, if you come this way, do go visit Bearizona and Meteor Crater – we loved it!
The animals are free to roam around Bearazona and seem well loved. A lot are rescued and donated.
Of course, the brown and black bears are our favorites, so we sit and watch them from the car in awe. Now all these pictures are taken through the car window, so not perfect.
We then park your car and go to the walkthrough section. I loved Justin Beaver. Thought that was so funny, and there are so many animals to see.
Also, a huge group of baby and smaller bears, and Explorason adores their antics.
My son spent about 3/4 hour here, and it really was another education day and world-schooling at its best.
There is also 3 bird shows a day here at Bearazona. You sit comfortably and learn so much about these also. This one bird is flying straight at me – back and forth. Within 3-6 inches of my head at most and it is freaky, but this bird has been trained to do so.
My son enjoys the displays and live shows and is really happy today here at both Bearizona and Meteor Crater.
We head back to our Flagstaff hotel for lunch in the room – Vegemite sandwiches! We then head off the opposite way to Meteor Crater.
At Meteor Crater, the lady was a ‘put off’ at the front reception with her bad attitude, almost to the point we did not go in, but we go in any way because she might just be having a bad day, we hope. Another place our LA friends told us we must see is here at Meteor Crater, and this is where the astronauts for Apollo 11 trained for the moon.
Explorason and the Latino Guide ‘click’. Here is another piece of meteor, like we had seen a couple of days ago seen in the photo below.
We decide to take the Meteor Rim hike, and it is one hour long. As we walk and talk with the guide, we learn so much and he is a great educator in world- schooling for my son.
Don’t mind the fashion in these pics, it is windy here in this part of the desert, so we dress warmly and comfortably. We meet some German travelers and have a nice chat which adds richness to our day.
After Bearizona and Meteor Crater we head to Winslow and here are our German travelers again, so we swap cameras and we get photos of them, and they of us which is nice as a seven-year-old isn’t always the best with a camera, but he tries. The German couple has never heard of the Eagles song “Standin’ on a corner in Winslow Arizona“, so I am singing it and we all laugh.
We find the Red Flat Bed truck parked out in the street, which I thought was funny!
We sang, ran, and had such a good time on the streets of Winslow Arizona and it is a great place well worth a visit on your road trip to Bearazona and Meteor Crater.
As we head back to our hotel we find the Twin Arrows of Route 66. We park mid-two-way traffic on a back road much to the amusement of the Highway Patrol and hop out and take a photograph.
As we end this part of our road trip to Bearazona and Meteor Crater we really feel we want to recommend this journey to you.
Please spend a week in this area if you get a chance. It is awesome – we have really had a fabulous time – I do NOT want to leave here!

I’m always looking for places to take my grandson. I think we’re going to have to plan a trip to the Flagstaff area for him. Bearazonia looks like the perfect kid activity!
