Being a parent isn’t an easy job, especially when you’re doing it on 2 hours sleep and trying to navigate a foreign city!

Here are a few things to think about when you want to get the most out of traveling with a ten-year-old (or any kids!).

Top Ten Tips for Travelling with a Ten-Year-Old

1.  Ensure you’re fully charged.

Yes, as a parent you have to maintain high energy when traveling, but when flying it’s also super important to make sure your technology is 100% charged.

The iPad and Nintendo always keep Explorason away from boredom when we’re waiting to board, or on the plane.

2.  Rest up.

Getting sleep on flights is next to impossible when you’re trying to make sure your child is sleeping safely – that’s why being well rested prior to any travel is vital so you arrive alert and ready for the next adventure.

3.  Hydrate.

It’s very tempting to say yes to a glass of wine on a flight, but you’ll be better off in the long run to decline.

Flying makes the body dehydrated and is one of the reasons we get jet lag.

A flight drink with electrolytes and vitamins, like 1Above, helps to stop you feeling sluggish when you arrive at your next destination.

4.  Eat Healthy Meals

Isn’t it strange how airports and train stations only have fast food restaurants, when they are the worst thing to eat before traveling?

Eating fresh food will make you feel a lot better when you’re sitting down for a long time, even if the kids complain!

5.  Pack light.

It just makes it so much easier when you’re traveling from place to place!

You only really need to have the basics with you, and when you have to carry all the bags because your kids are tired, you don’t want to be doing the heavy lifting.

6.  Carry a change of clothes.

Accidents happen and sitting in dirty clothing is never a nice experience – for you or your child.

It’s also handy to have spare clothes ready for changes in weather.

7.  Organise your paperwork.

Having addresses, directions and booking info somewhere that you can access easily will make traveling a lot smoother.

Sleeping on flights with a money belt on, so you know your passport and money are secure, also helps for peace of mind.

8.  Enjoy the culture.

Explorason has learned so much from the different cultures we’ve experienced.

There’s a lot of value in sharing your culture with others and letting them show you how they live, so try to spend time outside of hotels and theme parks!

9.  Help others.

This will also teach your children lessons they will remember for life and create memories they can cherish.

There are so many people in the world who need a helping hand, especially children.

We like to give clothes and toys to those we meet along the journey. Those who are less fortunate than us.

10.  Have fun!

And take lots of photos.
