Hahndorf Resort Where Families Play And Stay

This is Hahndorf

Nestled in the foothills of Adelaide, lies a small German Town named Hahndorf.  Few know that the Germans played a huge part in the settlement of South Australia.

Being Adelaide born and bred, we both decided to stay in Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park, but what we failed to realize, was that there was so much to do within the resort, we found ourselves wanting to stay and explore and have fun right within the tourist park grounds!

Fun & Games Galore

We loved the Games Room. I had time to play Table Tennis with my son.  We also played Air Hockey, and often we play Futbal.

I love spending time with him playing games when we travel.  We often just have time when we play games together, and I find this an incredible bonding time. One game we recommend is Euro Soccer.

With several of the games in the Games Room not requiring any payment; and also an assortment of pay-as-you-play games, this is the place kids head to.

An all new improved Games Room is nearly finished, but meanwhile the kids (and adults) ‘have a ball’ in here.

I love the way the parents were interacting with their kids too! This is real family fun. This is the way family life should be, where parents have time to spend having fun with their kids.

Ideal to keep the kids busy on a rainy day.

Mini Golf

We were just in time!

The new Mini Golf designed by one of the owners has opened, and we were able to play and have fun as a family out in the sun.  Explorason won – of course!

Plus, it is complimentary to all in-house guests.

Jumping Bounce Cushion

Shaded from the sun, this great jumping cushion is fun for little and big kids.

Again, it is complimentary to all in-house guests.

This was definitely Explorason’s favorite thing to do – he bounced with all his might!

Massive Swimming Pool

Whilst it was a little too chilly when we stayed, the outdoor swimming pool is a hit in the warmer months.

Another great feature to enjoy when staying at the resort or caravan park area.

Room for the kids

Our cottage was very roomy and modern.

Explorason loved the bunk bed in his room.

What surprised me most was the fact that they actually came and made the beds, and left clean towels for us each day – that was an unexpected treat.

Feeding the Geese

This was our fabulous cottage.  With ample room to park our hire car, and a lovely balcony to enjoy alfresco meals or an evening drink, we could make the most of the outdoors here at Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park.

There is a plethora of birdlife here at Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park, so the balcony area also proved to be a safe haven for feeding the geese that would wander up from the small lake opposite our cottage.

Modern and clean

Those that know me, know I love places that are of high quality, and that are neat and clean.  I detest clutter and mess – I guess this is part of living a life of constant travel.  It means we keep our possessions to a minimum, and our lifestyle is one where we want to find things easily, and have a clean ‘home’.

So was thrilled with the conditions of the cottages here! Just immaculately presented.

Ensuite with toiletries

Nothing beats a nice spacious ensuite – this one was a winner for me!  Plenty of cupboard space to put away our toiletries too. And there was even a hairdryer.

The kitchen has it all

There are several types of accommodation available at Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park. Lodging offered includes resort rooms; 1-2 bedroom units; cottages; 3 bedroom houses; and spa units.

All feature free Wi-Fi (and it was a winner with Explorason), and flat-screen TVs; plus a bar fridge; electric kettle, air conditioning; and tea & coffee making facilities.

For the units and cottages, they add microwaves; toasters; and outdoor area; a 3 bedroom house has a full-size kitchen.

Mingle with other guests

If you’d like to meet other campers, head on up to the outdoor seating area. Sit and watch the sunset over the Adelaide Hills, as you meet national and international travelers. We met a lovely couple from WA and had a nice time chatting with them.

Huge Communal Kitchen

We met some more lovely guests in the communal kitchen – all visiting from Europe.

This kitchen has an end that opens up for warmer weather, or the room can be closed off to be nice and cozy in winter too.  Heaps of fridges so guests can label and store their food too.

There’s also a BBQ area and a guest laundry.

Playground

There is a modern playground; a giant chess set; volleyball net; and half court tennis, so loads of games and play areas for the kids.

Lake

Opposite our cottage was this lovely lake. I loved sitting out and watching the geese and ducks, and a number of outer species of birds as well.

With little winter rains, this was quite dry, but I believe it is beautiful in the Spring when full. I thought it was delightful in the autumn too.

Galahs and Cockatoos

Pink and white cockatoos are also plentiful at Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park.  It gives you that real Aussie feel, as you watch them feed.

Three Gums Bistro

There is an informal bar and also a Three Gums Bistro located at the top of the hill at Hahndorf Resort Tourist Park.

We dined there two times and enjoyed it so much we wrote about that separately here.  They are open Wednesday to Sunday, and there is even a huge fireplace. The bar is a lovely vintage wooden style, and perfect to pop in for an evening drink, or dinner if you are tired.

Three Gums Bistro even offer takeaway for guests who have just arrived, and don’t feel like cooking or too tired for the dining room.

Perfect Sunrises

I woke on our last morning early as we were flying out to Bali that day.  Look at the glorious sunrise that peeked in through our window.  I raced out with the camera and loved what I captured.

A Few Facts

The Germans brought with them their love for wine and art, and many of the regions around South Australia soon were inhabited by German families establishing vineyards.

Hahndorf is one of these towns.  Rich in German culture, here you will find fabulous German food; traditional German Pubs; Wineries; Orchards; and Vineyards.

Hahndorf is only 26 km from the Adelaide Airport.

With views to the Adelaide Hills, this modern 13-hectare resort is 1.1 km from the M1 Freeway and 18 km from Belair National Park.

I’d give this five stars!  We’d totally recommend it with no hesitations.

  1. This looks like a really fun place! I must say, I didn’t know about the German influence in Australia, I loved to learn about that!
