Location, location, location.
We find the ideal central location where we could walk into the city of Adelaide.
Recently I was asked, “Do you only write about high-end and luxury accommodation? Why don’t you include some more affordable places for families to stay in when you are traveling”?
So, I listened, and this next Adelaide accommodation is specifically for those budget conscious readers, who like quality at an affordable price, and in a great central location.
We selected a cabin the Adelaide Caravan Park. The superb location means you can walk to the city through the gardens, and it is an ideal family place to stay, and here’s our list as to why.
Location
Adelaide Caravan Park is located at Hackney, an inner-city suburb on the edge of Adelaide.
Hackney is quite a regal suburb, with gorgeous old homes from the 1920’s, and lovely leafy streets.
You might not realize – Adelaide is known as the ‘City of Gardens’. Colonel William Light designed this city with each directional Terrace being one mile long.
To the outer edge of each Terrace, pretty, relaxing gardens and parks can be found.
To the northeast corner lie the Adelaide Botanical Gardens, and the inner city suburb of Hackney.
South Australia is named ‘The Festival State’, and in February ‘The Adelaide Fringe’ is a great outdoor event that makes this small city come alive.
Then there is the Clipsal 500 Racing where Adelaide streets transform into a racetrack.
The East End of Adelaide is known for its ‘Café Culture’, along with bars, restaurants, and an eclectic range of shops.
YES, this is a perfect location.
A spacious living area within the paneled cabin
The cabins come in a range of room sizes.
We booked a King Size 2 bedroom cabin at the rear of the property.
If you have a family or are two couples, this cabin would be perfect for you.
The living area combines lounge and dining.
Smaller metal cabins are also available.
All are equipped with reverse cycle air-conditioning and adjacent parking.
Linen, towels, soap and basic cleaning needs are all provided.
Explorason loved that the master bedroom had a large color TV hidden inside the built-in wardrobe, as well as a TV in the living area. DVD player and a range of DVD’s at the office are available too.
Massive storage space in all rooms (in my opinion) so if you came to stay for a week or a month, you’d have plenty of room to place your possessions.
there was also plenty of parking for vehicles including our own area for our little rental car.
Kitchen
Our apartment was equipped with a 4 burner hob; convection oven / microwave; refrigerator with freezer; all the cooking utensils; pots and pans etc. So perfect for cooking our pancakes for breakfast on a lazy Saturday morning.
Communal Laundry
A massive laundry room is equipped with washing machines; dryers; iron; and ironing board and is centrally located on the property, right near the communal clotheslines.
Communal Kitchen
A clean and spacious communal kitchen with color TV is also available for guest use. We met a few fellow friendly travelers in here, and found it was ‘quite the meeting place’.
BBQ Area
There are several outdoor BBQ areas, some with seating.
A lovely evening breeze gently cooled this undercover area, as guests relaxed and cooked their evening meal, and laughter filled the air.
One BBQ area was directly opposite our cabin too.
Swimming Pool
Fenced for safety and security, this swimming pool area is nice and clean.
With quite a few sun-beds dotted around the water’s edge, this pool is perfect for relaxation after a walk back from the city.
Pretty and Shady Gardens
Adelaide Caravan Park is very neat and tidy. Plants are well cared for.
Lovely tree shade is plentiful and provided for the camper-van area too.
Play Park
‘Twelftree Reserve’ is right next door, so a great play area if you have smaller children.
Café right down the street
Get into Adelaide’s famous Café Culture.
Turn left out of the Adelaide Caravan Park, and there is a trendy café right on the corner (and a post box should you need to send a good ol’ fashioned postcard home).
Iconic Hackney Hotel close by
Feeling like a ‘coldie’, or a lovely pub meal, then the Hackney Hotel offers a top Burger Bar; Beer Garden; Front Bar, and also a Restaurant.
The Internet access is $6 an hour at the Adelaide Caravan Park, so ‘The Hackney’ also has free Wi-Fi.
We enjoyed a lovely Friday night dinner there and caught up on our emails at the same time.
Friendly and Professional Staff
“Oops, we are out of milk”, says Explorason as he goes to make me a coffee. He pops over to ask the friendly staff for more.
Coffee and Tea making facilities are supplied in the cabin, including milk.
At all times we found the Reception staff welcomed us with friendly service.
When we asked about ‘The Fringe Festival’, the helpful lady had a huge range of pamphlets and flyers for us.
From Hire Cars to S.A. places to visit, we left reception loaded up with great options of things to do, and places to explore – here in my own ‘home-town’ of Adelaide.
The staff ensured Adelaide Caravan Park was kept really clean and neat, and the 10:00 p.m curfew was appreciated, so no noisy late night party-animals getting drunk. I think the park was fully booked on the weekend we stayed, yet we found it quiet and clean.
We found Adelaide Caravan Park to be relaxing to stay in; a top location, and an affordable option for family travel.
