About thirteen kilometers from downtown Belgrade in Serbia is a hidden gem called Hotel Sucevic. Set in the hillsides of Avala you will find something unexpected.

There are two main buildings set in a beautiful garden environment, just a short drive from the bypass.

The Hotel Sucevic has a great choice of rooms and suites, from small single rooms to grand suites and apartments. Some of these even have jacuzzi spa tubs in the bathroom.

This one had a separate modern lounge area – isn’t it lovely?

Outside on the day we arrived, we had a dusting of snow, and that made everything look gorgeous.

We thought this was just a hotel set in pretty gardens when we first drove into the off-street parking at Hotel Sucevic.  But to our surprise the jewel is downstairs in the main building – take a look inside these incredible wooden windows and massive front door.

We received an unexpected treat when we went inside to find an ‘Etno’ or traditional and authentic Serbian Restaurant.  It is as though time has stood still and you couldn’t get the smile off my face.  I LOVE places like this.  This hotel is exactly why we try to choose the road less traveled. It gives us the chance to find authentic experiences often missed when we only get to visit the more touristic and mainstream venues.

Here the charm exudes these carefully made brick walls. They are full of artist design even within the brickwork if you look closely.

We are greeted by two male staff, who wear the Serbian National shirt which is embroidered and accompanied by the woven sash, and black waistcoats.

Hung all around the walls are antique and old style Serbian artifacts.  The plates are all pottery, and the service is incredible.

And the food is healthy and amazing, as you can see from the delight on Explorason’s face!

We did select some rather yummy desserts on our last night here – a delicious chocolate pie with cream and ice-cream for Explorason, and freshly made walnut crepes with ice-cream for me.

We realized this event was the first time Explorason had eaten ice-cream whilst it was snowing outside, and in general for quite some months.

The staff really went out of their way to offer us great service.  The head server spoke great English, and after our meal offered to show me around.

There is a separate cellar building where they cure hams and pack small goods.

They also make their own wine and traditional Serbian alcohol.

Here we learned all about the winemaking process.  They have a great cellar area to visit, so please do ask if you visit or stay here to see this great area.

And just look at some of the selection available that they produce!

We head back to the main building for a bit of a look around.  A large dining room with a bar is available.

Perfect for anyone celebrating or wanting to book for a function like a wedding or 21st, or for large group bookings.

There is also a meeting/board room available for hire, complete with a flat-screen TV. Because this is situated near the main reception area, and the grand dining room it is perfect for a variety of uses.

So as we say goodbye to Hotel Sucevic, we also say goodbye to more of what we have loved about Serbia. A fantastic experience, with great service, and with the most helpful staff.
