Stoupa (Peloponnese Greece) is Stupendous
This sunset has a lot to answer for!
We are driving along the coast, and had no idea there was a small tourist town down a little side road. All I knew was there was an incredible sunset, and I wanted a photograph.
So here I am in Greece, chasing a sunset, with a nine-year-old by my side.

So we shoot down someone way skinny lanes and next thing, I find myself driving along the beachfront. It is a ‘U-shaped’ cove and lined with restaurants, cafes and little stores.
And I want to stay!
So we stop and ask a lady if she knows where we can rent an apartment. She turns out to be the loveliest Greek lady ever, and she telephones a man who later we find out is the local Real Estate guru.
Next thing I know we are driving around the back streets of Stoupa following his car.

It is just perfect for us. It has wi-fi and a balcony where I can sit and have a morning coffee.
And we are alone and not far from the sea.
It has a small roll away kitchen – it is a kitchen in a cupboard a bit bigger than a caravan/campervan kitchen, and it works perfectly for us.

Next morning it is breakfast on the balcony as the church bells ring different tunes.

We head down to this sleepy Greek tourist town, and as the season is nearly over, it is quiet, but not deserted.

The cats seem to be everywhere, sunning themselves contentedly.

There is a small cove with fishing boats and another cove on the other side. It is just so pretty.

We walk along and next thing, my toes are in. I can’t stop myself, as it feels so perfect. This is warm water – in October – unbelievable.

Explorason finds a love heart shaped pebble. We have found a few of these of late, and I have since learned there are many to be found and many people who collect them.
The joy of this Sunday morning walk is that we have time to stop, and explore nature.

We walk right to the end of the beach. It is lovely to rest under the thatched umbrellas. Pomegranate trees are above us.

Our walk ended up near lunchtime, so we headed back for some relaxation time, and reading.
That evening we tried to make it for the sunset, but we just missed it. This time we went to the left of the cove and found a small Greek restaurant, but we decided to move on to the main part of town.

In fact, we walked all the way to the other end of town where there was a restaurant on the hill. It is a tranquil time of the evening, and it is so nice to walk and talk – and relax and not rush.

Explorason played around with the camera, but none of the settings were that great for the photographs.

As the evening darkened, the village lights illuminated before us.
I thought I had found my “happy place” in Finikounda last week (you can read about that here), but I think I just found another one!

We loved the evening but decided to save money and head home as the evening cooled.
The next day was pretty much a repeat of the day before.
That evening as we headed out for our walk we suddenly heard bells. Charging down our street were goats, coming in for the night.

And this night we managed to watch the sunset. We found the perfect table right opposite the beach.

This particular Greek restaurant had the most incredible food. And it was so reasonably priced.

Explorason surprised me with two love heat leaves he picked on the walk here. Representing himself and myself – and the love we share. We really enjoyed this moment as a family. There may be just two of us, but we are happy, and he is a great boy, and I am really proud of what a nice and caring child he is.

At dinner, we started to chat with a lovely English couple, Patricia and Howard. We ‘ran into them’ later in the night – well we walked past a taverna where they were enjoying a glass of red wine, and shared a drink. We ended up visiting their lovely home on our way back home – perfect as it was just around the corner. We felt so safe walking back in Stoupa, and so happy we had met such lovely people.
So we sadly must finish our time in Stoupa.
