Kenyan Girls Have A Safe Place

Girls Going Beyond Ministry.

Built on the South Coast Community Church pillar of enhancing believer’s lives, changing communities, a ministry was born that helps Kenyan teenage girls.

In our 3rd year running, we look back and YES! There is a story to tell.

By Guest Writer – Mrs. Edith Waziri – SCCC Deacon, In Charge.

Testimonies of lives that have changed, absenteeism rates from schools have decreased, year grades have improved, and many smiles on girls face have blown.  Yes, the Lord has been faithful.

The Girls Go Beyond Ministry focuses on engaging young girls in high school between the ages of 13yrs by offering a safe place where they can talk about their personal issues.

They can also learn basic life skills that are easily transferable in their everyday lives and help keep them in school by providing basic sanitary towels.

The biggest challenge noted in the many schools in the rural areas that we visit is the lack of basic sanitary towels; usage of unhygienic alternatives in not attending school during their menstrual cycle session is all but so common.

As a result, it is natural that girls were not attending school during their menstrual cycle session – this is all but so common.

Working with identified schools (to enable measure the effectiveness of the program), the team of ladies involved commits to mentoring the girls in a way that they self-discover themselves and explore their identities and their stories: who they are, what challenges they face, and how we can help them.

As the name ‘Girls Go Beyond Ministry’ depicts; we make a deliberate effort to help them go beyond their:

  • traditions
  • myths
  • village
  • county
  • school
  • religion
  • gender
  • negative cultural influences
  • see beyond the horizon
  • believe in themselves

It’s been a fulfilling thing to do on a personal level and this started over ten years ago.

Would you like to go beyond with us and put a smile on a girl’s face?

It costs only about $10.00 per year to keep a girl child in school.
