Adventure and Activities In Costa Brava

Today is the second day of our trip exploring the coastal areas, and having family fun in the Costa Brava region.

We wake at Camping Valldaro and the kids are excited to take a golf cart for a tour around the campground/site, and to the restaurant where we are having breakfast.  I was straight out of the shower, so no chance to look glamorous! Wet hair and all.  We have to make two rounds, with most of the adults going in the send golf cart.

The kids don’t mind a bit, because they order hot chocolates and sit and chat. They are loving hanging out together.

We head off in the direction of Sant Feliu de Guíxols and wind up a hilly road and park the minibus.

We then go for a short hike to Parc Aventura and we get kitted out for the next exciting adventure.

We have a lesson on how to use the equipment and we are off.

I was really impressed with the youngest member of our group who handled challenges even I found difficult.

This is by far the hardest and most challenging canopy walk and hipline I have encountered so far.  Last week we had been having fun at Gnomo Park and that was great practice for this.

Explorason was swinging through the trees like Tarzan.  One was a slide and he asked me to push him off. This was really weird as a mother to actually help my son off a slide that was only 3 meters long, and then to watch him hipline across.

I was so exhausted but felt great afterward. I’d had a bit of an encounter where I didn’t grab a net in time and my hands had managed a small burn.  I was ready for a rest.

But no – we climbed up to see a Treehouse they have.  Here is often the place they have stag parties on weekend – men behaving in nature as men do! I was glad I went. I even discovered a bush toilet with a pink lid.

We climbed thankfully into the minibus and was glad the driver had bottles of water for us.

We headed to a cute seaside town, and I wish we had more time to explore.

Next, we visited a private collection – I believe the largest in Spain – a Toy Museum.  Interestingly there were toys I remember from my childhood, and even a couple I recall from my parents’ odd old childhood toys they had saved.  I liked seeing these.  The owner had put a lot of love and time into his collection. He even had an old working electric train track.

There was also a haunted room, and Explorason saw that and raced downstairs. He has a complete dislike for dolls, so I can’t say this was his favorite event, but the other kids liked it a lot.

Lunch in Hotel Restaurant Can Segura. This is a pretty newly renovated hotel and restaurant. It is decorated with some fantastic driftwood and nautical themed artwork, which reminded me of our times last year making things from driftwood in Ireland.

It was a really great restaurant.

It was again a seafood restaurant, and we enjoyed a fabulous big salad and quite a few fish dishes for lunch.  I liked this as it wasn’t too heavy a meal. I think we were all quite hungry from the climb.

I am sure we hung around and lazed in the corner a little longer than we should have.  It was just so relaxing and the color cushions reminded me of ones we had purchased in Turkey.

We all climbed back into the minibus and headed off further up the coast.

We were scheduled for a walking tour along the coastal path from S’Agaró to Sa Conca Beach with an official guide from Tourist Office. We were joined by a photographer, so that put a slight defocus on the tour guide and a slight focus on him shooting pictures for some of us.

It was interesting to watch the kids as they hung out together.  I was really happy as I felt that as traveling families it gave them a chance to tell their stories to each other.  Being on the same wavelength really seemed to make a difference.

This was a very elite housing and holiday area of Catalunya.  Explorason quite liked this Ferrari, but then he loves Ferrari’s. We often go to car museums and even went to the Ferrari Museum in Italy.

So to see the big boys toys on display here as the rich played, ate and drank gave it a luxury feel to the area.

By now I was ready for some sleep. But not a chance. the kids still had energy, and so we hit the Bowling “Bolera d’Aro Bowling” Alley.

I had to have a cappuccino coffee and the barista made a bear face in it.  I felt like he was winking at me. It gave me just the lift I needed.  We had a really fun time together at Bolera d’Aro Bowling, and I think we felt more like friends now.

Dinner was in a restaurant in Platja d’Aro Restaurant Feliu.

It was a family owned restaurant, and the manager had put together a really special menu just for us.

He had selected a range of appetizers and main courses, and a range of incredible seafood dishes.  In fact, I have never seen so much food on one table than at the lovely Restaurant Feliu.

Outside was a takeaway buffet with a huge selection of meals available.  I hear that in the heart of summer the queue for these meals can go down the street and around the corner.

Restaurant Feliu is quite famous so please do visit if you come to Catalunya.

I really admired and respected this hard-working manager who was just so nice. He really treated the kids with care, and I loved the way he took them to the side and let them select their own dessert.

So day two ends in Platja d’Aro and we return to our accommodation for the night at Camping Valldaro.

But exciting times ahead – we have two more days to go.  I am glad we are going back to our same cozy room, and we can get a good nights sleep in the peaceful park.
