The Lakes District, England

The Lakes District, England

Today sees us driving our little car, Vegemite, through the country towns of the Lakes District.

We start at Keswick. First stop is to park the car. We find out they have a great system where you get a parking dial card and dial-up free parking. Complex to explain, but works a treat.  So we get our did card and leave the car in faith for 1 hour.

We get a great book for my son from the WH Smith Newsagent. He is into Minecraft and it is a coding book.  He reads it as we walk down the paved streets.

We head to the lake. It is really lovely with Campbell Khaki ducks and geese.  I end up down low having a conversation with mother goose herself.

The wooden boats are so lovely. The lake runs alongside a paddock with sheep. It is a mix of town and country.

Next town we head to is Grasmere.  Now, this is a lovely town.

The laneways are filled with Azaleas and Camellias.

We head up one lane and see the cutest houses and this is opposite the place where Wordsworth had his cottage.

Dove Cottage is next.  Wordsworth is right. This country “is the loveliest spot that man has ever found”.

We stop for a few more country photos. My Australian Explorafriend is in awe. The stone walls. The gorgeous homes.  It is lovely!

We stop for lunch at Ambleside and find a great pub meal deal. The Queens Hotel is well worth a visit. Great food for five or six pounds a meal.

Wandering on, my friend manages to score some much-needed winter clothes at a bargain price, and then we wander down to the historic bridge home.

Set over a waterway, it is just a sight to behold.

So many cute places in this town.  But as we have no accommodation booked for tonight and so we head on.

We find the most amazing hostel but it is a bit over our budget so we drive to the next town.

We soon discover that this is a real tourist zone, and we are better going back to what we found.  We get there and it has been snapped up.

But at the first BnB, one lovely man named Andrew; then next, the rudest man I have ever encountered at any BnB, we finally find a delightful lady at Brook House BnB 30 Ellerthwaite Rd, Windermere LA@# 2AH Phone 015 394 44932. Kath was a delight.  An amazing lady. So helpful.  All our worries disappeared as we went into our separate rooms for some rest and relaxation prior to going out for dinner.

We end up at a great little Italian Restaurant in town for dinner and then back to the BnB for some internet time.

Kath at Brook House – you are amazing. You made our stay so memorable. Thank you!
